Mohsen Makhmalbaf: ‘Why I tried to kill the Shah of Iran’
Iranian film director Mohsen Makhmalbaf, who was sentenced to death aged 17 (that decision was, thankfully, later reversed), sat down to talk to me about surviving multiple assassination attempts, making the film ‘Kandahar’ to educate the world about Afghanistan, and sharing a prison cell in Iran with the now-Supreme Leader’s brother.
